Lol, a monster cave with a lot of squares in the background. Certain games use it to make it look like a very electronic and retro game, but in your case, its distribution is so wide that it seems like one of I made for one of my own games:
that background was a random decision. At first I did not had any background and the game feels empty. I opened up gimp an there was a blocks like brush. I used it with same colour palate as the games asset to make this background.
